Biotium Calcein AM
Calcein AM is a widely used green fluorescent cell marker. Calcein AM is membrane-permeant and thus can be introduced into cells via incubation. Once inside the cells, calcein AM is hydrolyzed by endogenous esterase into the highly negatively charged green fluorescent calcein, which is retained in the cytoplasm. Calcein AM is an excellent tool for the studies of cell membrane integrity and for cell tracing. Supplied in lyophilized form or as a solution in anhydrous DMSO at 4 mM (80011-1) or 1 mg/mL (1 mM) (80011-2). Calcein AM is also offered in our Cell Viability and Cytotoxicity Assay Kit. Biotium Calcofluor White Stain, 5 mM in Water. 20ml
Calcofluor White is a fluorescent blue dye that binds to cellulose and chitin, which can be found in the cell walls of fungi, algae, and plants. In budding yeast Calcofluor White stains bud scars more strongly, because they have a higher concentration of chitin. Calcofluor White is sometimes used to identify fungal infections in medical samples. Calcofluor White also stains gram-positive bacteria, but not gram-negative bacteria or mammalian cells. Biotium Sulforhodamine B
Like other sulforhodamine dyes, the highly water-soluble sulforhodamine B can be used as a polar tracer for cell morphology and neuronal cell-cell communication studies. Sulforhodamine B has also been shown to be a superior protein stain for quantification of cellular proteins in cultured cells. The dye is believed to bind to basic amino acids of proteins, and colorimetric measurement of protein-bound dye provides an estimate of the total protein mass as a measure of cell number. The assay is simple and reproducible, and the end-point measurement is not time-critical, a significant advantage over tetrazolium-based assays. The intensely colored, water-soluble dye is particularly useful for in vitro cell-based screening of anticancer drugs and well-suited to large scale screening of anticancer drug candidates from natural extracts or synthetic chemicals.
